Pastor Jon’s Winter Forum
Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Life Together

With the recent feature film on his life, there has been a renewed interest in Dietrich Bonhoeffer, one of the most compelling Christian martyrs of the 20th century. Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran pastor living in Germany under Nazi rule, left a profound legacy of theological insight that continues to resonate across denominations and generations.
Written in 1938 after the Nazis shut down the seminary where he taught, Life Together captures his reflections on Christian community. Although originally written for his students, Bonhoeffer envisioned this work having a broader impact, addressing the mission and responsibility of the church as a whole.
Bonhoeffer’s reflections on the joys and struggles of Christian fellowship remain deeply relevant. In a world that often feels fragmented, his vision of a Christ-centered community provides both inspiration and practical guidance. With actionable insights on prayer, worship, accountability, and community-building, Life Together invites us to reflect on our own lives of faith—how we engage with others, practice discipleship, and respond to God’s call in our daily interactions.

For our study and conversation, we will be using the “Reader’s Edition,” which includes supplemental material from Victoria J. Barnett and an introduction by Geffrey B. Kelly to clarify the theological meaning and social importance of Bonhoeffer’s work. Copies will be available in the office for $15.
This forum will be offered both at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
